HWPL : International NGOs Called for Inclusiveness and Respect to Leave Peace as a Legacy to the Next Generation

The 3rd Peace Builders Forum was held in Sydney on March 19th under the theme of Respect, Fair Play. 45 participants and social representatives including politicians and leaders from religion, women, civil society and media groups gathered together to highlight the idea that everyone has to stand on equal footing and respect each other to overcome discrimination in Australia through a public peace campaign.

Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) and International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) are the organizers of this event for introduction and promotion of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) to Australia. The DPCW, drafted by HWPL and its International Law Peace Committee with global experts, addresses conflict resolution based on preventing war-related behaviors, safeguarding religious and ethnic identities, and encouraging a culture of peace through international cooperation.

Participants shared their own experience of discrimination to foster interracial understanding. One member of the audience said, "Discrimination happens everywhere we go. I experienced a lot in Australia, and even back in my own country between our own citizens and people from ethnic minorities. The possible solution is an education. People, especially children, need to be taught to respect other people and taught about other cultures to be more open-minded."

Through making bibimbap, Korean traditional food having a symbolic meaning of harmony in different colors of ingredients making a unique taste, participants were encouraged to think of the future of Australia where the value of coexistence and harmony transcending culture, gender, and ethnicity enrich the country.

To advocate the DPCW, which in the end should result in an international legally binding document to be adopted by the United Nations (UN), there is the Legislate Peace Campaign all over the world including Palestine, the Philippines, and Tunisia. Furthermore, especially in Australia, many activities such as advocacy forums for the DPCW and peace education have been done to leave a legacy of peace for future generations and raise awareness about peace more than about conflicts, based on spreading a culture of peace, Article 10 of the Declaration. It will be followed by the 4th Peace Builders Forum in May.
