HWPL: Al-Khalil University in Palestine Seeks Peace through the DPCW
The 2nd advocacy conference of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) was held to support peace at Al-Khalil University, Palestine on January 24th. The conference was joined by approximately 250 students of Hebron University College of Law & Political Science and social representatives.
Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an international non-governmental organization registered in the United Nations Department of Public Information (UN DPI), and Hebron University organized this conference to raise awareness in peace-building led by NGOs in the international community and seek action plans for peace in support of the DPCW.
Followed by 706,103 supportive signatures from global citizens in 173 countries, the DPCW, drafted by HWPL and its International Law Peace Committee with global experts, addresses conflict resolution based on preventing war-related behaviors, safeguarding religious and ethnic identities, and encouraging a culture of peace through international cooperation.
Dr. Mutaz M. Qafisheh, the dean of Hebron University College of Law & Political Science, introduced and emphasized the DPCW, saying "The DPCW, by focusing on peace per se as a binding international law rule, can be considered as a historical breakthrough. Its adoption by states and key United Nations bodies would be considered as a turning point towards the way that international relations are constructed and practiced."
Students made postcards with the theme of lives of Palestinian young people. One of them said, "Now I feel highly motivated on peace. I want to support HWPL."
Advocacy forums for the DPCW are taking place around the globe including Palestine, Jordan, and Armenia and raising awareness about the necessity of the DPCW to be implemented into enforceable law. They will establish a foothold for members of international organizations, governments and civil society to introduce a new norm of peace through the DPCW.
